Part 1 Functions and Features

The objective for training in Part 1 is to form a knowledge of what the new Hiper II brings to the market

Know the key functions

Know the operational functions

Know the safety functions

Know the protective functions

Know the connections, Know PHE position

Plumbing Connections UPPER (Primary / District)

  1. Heat Network Flow
  2. Heat Network Return

Plumbing Connections LOWER (Secondary / Tertiary)

  1. 3/4” Heating Flow (radiators or underfloor heating)
  2. 3/4” DHW HOT OUTLET
  3. 3/4” DHW COLD INLET
  4. 3/4” Heating Return
  5. 1/2” Safety valve discharge

Part 2 Operation

The objective for training in Part 2 is to understand the flow paths in the Hiper II HIU for all 3 x circuits and understand the basic operation

Primary Circuit Flow Path

The position of the Diverter Valve dictates which plate heat Exchanger is used.

Flow path for supply from the heat network in heating mode.

Flow path for supply from the heat network in hot water mode.

Secondary Heating Circuit Flow Path

The position of the Diverter Valve dictates which plate heat Exchanger is used.

  1. Heating Return Block, which includes the safety relief valves and strainer.
  2. Pumping into the diverter valve.
  3. Connection to the expansion tank.
  4. Motorised diverting valve directs all flow into the Heating PHE. The valve is integral to the primary return diverter manifold.
  5. Exit the PHE now at set temperature for heating.
  6. Isolation valve connection to the heating circuit (radiators or UFH)

Domestic Hot Water Circuit

Flow Path

  1. Cold water enters through the isolation valve and
    passes through the inlet filter.
  2. Flow sensor to signal the controller that hot water
    demand has started.
  3. Shock arrester (preventing water hammer).
  4. Flow enters the Diverter valve manifold, diverter
moves to direct all PRIMARY flow into the front PHE (hot water production).
  5. Water exits the PHE through the primary flow PHE manifold at the hot water set temperature.
  6. Hot water supply connection.

Part 3 Components

The objective for training in Part 3 is to understand the
main components that combine to make the Hiper II

Primary Circuit

  1. PICV – Pressure independent control valve (cartridge)
    fitted in the Inlet Block.
  2. Modulating actuator (12v stepper motor).
  3. HEATING plate heat exchanger.
  4. HOT WATER plate heat exchanger.
  5. Honeywell diverter actuator.
  6. 110mm spacer pipe (Heat meter fitted here).
  7. PHE Primary return manifold with diverter cartridge.
  8. Flow Block connecting to both PHE.

Secondary Heating Circuit

  1. Heating return connection and isolation valve.
  2. Low pressure switch.
  3. Safety Relief Valve.
  4. Drain valve.
  5. Pump.
  6. Automatic Air Vent.
  7. Primary /Secondary return diverter manifold. Connection to the PHE. Vent and Drain.
  8. Exit point on the PHE connection manifold with flow at set point temperature for heating.
  9. Heating flow connection on the HIU and isolation
    valve.

Domestic Hot Water Circuit

  1. Cold water inlet connection block with strainer and DRAIN.
  2. Flow sensor.
  3. Shock arrester.
  4. PHE primary return manifold with diverter cartridge. Cold water in connection to the PHE.
  5. PHE primary flow manifold with PHE connections and DHW vent and drain.
  6. Filling group from cold supply to fill the heating circuit, temporary connection.

Electronic HIU Controller

Basics

  • Controls the hot water temperature.
  • Controls the heating temperature.
  • Maintains stable temperatures despite varying demand.
  • Keeps the PHE warm in readiness for instant hat water.
  • Programmes features and functions.
  • Displays what is in operation.
  • Allows the user to change temperatures.
  • Turns on or off.
  • Provides connection to Pre-Payment operation.
  • Wiring connection to room thermostat.

Modbus

Basics

Modbus is a communication protocol.

In simple terms, a method used for transmitting information over serial lines between electronic devices.

The Modbus Master is the device which requests information and Modbus Slaves supply information.

The Hiper II controller is the ‘slave’.

This subject will be covered in later modules.
